JVW FC’s First Team participate in the Gauteng Provincial League of the National Sasol League, and have recorded the following finishes since their debut in 2013:
The First team secured an incredible First place finish in 2016, where they qualified for their debut appearance at the National Champs which took place in Mossel Bay. The team who was led by Player-Coach Janine van Wyk, managed to secure a place in the Final of the competition where they narrowly lost 1 – 0 to Bloemfontein Celtic finishing second in the Country.
The JVW FC First Team is home to 10 players who have represented South Africa in the Senior Women’s National Team and U20 Women’s National team respectively. Two players, namely our Founder Janine van Wyk as well as 2017 Player of the Year, Linda Motlhalo were both signed by the NWSL Professional Team, Houston Dash in 2016 and 2017 respectively with Van Wyk playing in the U.S with the Dash for two consecutive years.
The SAFA Sasol League was launched in February 2009 as a provincial Women’s league, and consists of 144 clubs nationwide. The league format is based on a home and away basis among the 16 clubs in each province.
The winners of the respective provinces qualify to compete at the SAFA Sasol League National Championships which are held at the end of the regular season. The bottom two teams from each province are relegated to the Regional Women’s League and the top two teams from the Regional Women’s League are promoted into the SASOL League each year.
